Fees

Sunfish adds a small platform fee to each order. This section explains what it is, who can pay it, and what your attendees see at checkout.

What the platform fee is

The platform fee is a small charge applied per order that helps run the Sunfish platform. It's separate from any payment processing costs and applies to paid orders. Free registrations don't incur it.

Absorb it or pass it to the buyer

You choose who covers the fee:

  • Pass it to the buyer, the fee is added on top of the ticket price at checkout, so the attendee pays it. Your ticket revenue stays whole.
  • Absorb it, you cover the fee yourself. The attendee pays exactly the ticket price, and the fee comes out of your proceeds.
tip

Passing the fee to the buyer keeps your payout predictable. Absorbing it makes the price the attendee sees match your advertised price exactly. Many organizers pass it along, since a small added fee at checkout is familiar to most buyers.

What the attendee sees

  • If you pass the fee, it appears as a clear line on the order summary, added to the ticket total before payment.
  • If you absorb the fee, the attendee sees only the ticket price with no extra line, the fee is invisible to them.

Either way, the fee is never hidden from you. Your order and payout details always show it.

Getting paid

The platform fee is part of how a paid order is settled. To receive payouts at all, you'll need a connected Stripe account, that's where your ticket revenue lands after each order.

note

The fee only applies to paid orders. If you run a free event, there's nothing extra for you or your attendees to pay.
